Warrenton Rotary Club hosts Rotary International director

At its July 17th meeting at Fauquier Springs Country Club, the Rotary Club of Warrenton was visited by Eric Adamson, a member of the board of directors of Rotary International. Adamson, a past president and past Rotary District Governor, is a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Front Royal and long-time friend of Dr. Emerson Smith, a member of the Warrenton club, who made arrangements for his official visit.

Adamson was elected to the international board at the Rotary International annual convention held in Los Angeles in June. His visit to the Warrenton Rotary Club was his first official visit to a local Rotary Club since becoming a member of the international board. A former Fauquier County resident, Adamson has lived in the Front Royal area for over 20 years and recently retired from the practice of law.

Rotary International is the world's first and largest organization comprised of local clubs dedicated to community service and international understanding. It now includes more than 1.2 million members in some 33,000 local Rotary Clubs in almost every country in the world. The motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self” and through its Foundation the organization has become one of the world’s leading providers of scholarships for advanced university study and the leading contributor to the elimination of polio. It also conducts a wide range of other programs that promote professional and business ethics, volunteer community service, and international understanding and goodwill.

The local Rotary Club of Warrenton was formed in 1926 and now has some 75 members who are active in many of the area’s business, professional, and charitable organizations. The local club provides university scholarships to local students as well as providing financial and hands-on support for a number of other local charitable organizations.
