Family honors centenarian

Nellie Simmons of Culpeper, formerly from Remington, turned 100 years old on Sept. 9.

Born and raised in the Remington-Elkwood area, she had seven children — two boys with five girls in between, plus seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Archie Simmons, is deceased, as are her sons, Carl and Kenny.

On Sunday, Sept. 7, the family held a party in her honor at the Remington Lions Club with about 220 attending. Family and friends traveled from Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia.
