Red hot Falcons down Culpeper, 6-0, and LHS, 6-1
Fauquier collected a pair of Cedar Run District field hockey victories during the past week to improve to a league-leading 3-0 record.
The most recent district win arrived Monday afternoon when the Falcons administered a 6-0 spanking of visiting Culpeper. Fauquier scored two first-half goals and pulled away in the second period.
Fauquier dominated action during the opening 30 minutes, as the Falcons did not allow Culpeper a shot. The Devilettes only crossed the Falcons' defensive 25-yard line once.
The Falcons had eight penalty corners in the half, but they were not efficient in the circle, with two goals.
Senior Ellie Barrett found the back of the cage five minutes, 39 seconds into the half on a strong surge into the circle. She followed with her 30th career goal seven minutes later by dribbling into the circle and flicking the ball between the goaltender's legs.
Coach Sarah Talomie thought the halftime margin should have been wider, and was concerned when Culpeper mounted some strong second half surges.
Talomie could begin to breathe easier when her squad scored three goals in less than five minutes for a 5-0 lead.
Lindsay Gilbert assisted Miceile Barrett at the 18:47 mark. Barrett struck again with 14:42 showing, scoring again 37 seconds later.
Claire Spector converted a Paige Douthett assist for the final score with seven minutes to go.
Fauquier jumped on host Liberty Sept. 10 with a goal 30 seconds into the fray. The visitors would build a 5-0 lead and held a 5-1 advantage at halftime. FHS went on to a 6-1 victory...
