 Chamber names Jim Carson 2008 Business Person of the Year

The Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce has announced that Jim Carson, president of Carson, Ashley & Associates, LLC., is the 2008 recipient of the Business Person of the Year Award.

A leader in the local community and owner of a successful business, Carson has been a catalyst for economic improvement in our area. He serves on the Economic Development Advisory Committee for Fauquier County and as the vice chair of Economic Development on the board of directors of the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce.

Carson worked with the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors to streamline and facilitate smart business and residential growth through the DART program, and just this past year played a key role in getting county funding restored to the Lord Fairfax Small Business Development Center.

He has actively supported many local organizations and charities, including the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, Fauquier Family Shelter Services, Inc., Fauquier SPCA, the Marshall “Moving Forward” program, and Fauquier Habitat for Humanity.

The Business Person of the Year Award is the most prestigious honor the Chamber bestows. It exemplifies and awards the most involved and hardest-working citizen in Fauquier County. Carson is the 22nd recipient.

At its award dinner on Nov. 13, the chamber also recognized:

Appleton Campbell, Inc., with the Large Business of the Year Award. Established in 1976, it has grown into a company employing more than 30 people providing professional service, repair, and replacement for plumbing, heating, and air conditioning systems;

The Iron Bridge Wine Company with the Small Business of the Year Award, and;

Hospice of the Rapidan with the Non-Profit Business of the Year Award, a newly instituted honor to recognize the outstanding service of a local non-profit organization.

The Lord Fairfax Small Business Development Center also honored George Scheulen, partner of Scheulen, Patchett & Edwards, PC, with the 2008 Small Business Veteran of the Year Award.
