Less is more
Moving to this area would have been a blessing, but the beautiful home that I bought at top dollar is now worth much less than what I paid for it several years ago.
Guess where Fauquier County is taxing me? The home is worth less, but the value of the land has increased, so it evens out.
I don’t understand the need of counties to grow bigger, and, as they think, better, and add services that they have never had before.
We moved from a county that thought it was equal to Fairfax County with all of the goodies that it has for the residents.
Aquatic centers, several universities and small colleges, many new schools to handle the influx of new students, even the churches grew bigger to handle all of the new parishioners .
It seemed like the thought was "If we build it, they will come," but in the meantime the plain old taxpayers that had lived there for many years shouldered the burden of these dreams.
Is this what is happening here in Fauquier?
Whatever happened to no new taxes — that promise that was given out at election time?
Is cutting out some of the programs and cutting back on services, out of style?
Does a meals tax help here or will this just be the start?
Residents who are on fixed incomes and low incomes are looking to their leaders to keep their promises and not raise taxes but to cut back on expenses. It is called belt tightening and is going on everywhere.
You can’t keep raising taxes to meet the needs of Fauquier County.
