Cover-Letters

Do you ever receive junk mail? We all do!  What do you do with it?   Either junk it without reading, or junk it after a quick glance.  Hence, the name "junk mail"!  Junk mail lacks personalization, and never gets the attention of a personal letter.

Your cover letter is the "personal" presentation of your resume.  A good cover letter sets the stage for the reader to accept your resume as something special; read it, and invite you in for an interview!

First and very important, is to find an individual to whom you can address it.  Without that information, proper follow up canot be done after submitting the resume.  Be resourceful - FIND A NAME AND TITLE.  That shows you are focused.  That guarantees the cover letter will be opened and read.

The ideal person to send a resume to, is a Manager, Director or Supervisor, vs. personnel.  If there is interest and consideration given to you for a position, it will be forwarded to the appropriate staff, for review and response.  Remember the first thing the recipient sees is the COVER LETTER, then the Resume.  It is a VERY IMPORTANT first impression.  If it isn't GREAT, often the resume is ignored and never read.

Cover leters should be brief - 1/2 page is sufficient  - Express enthusiasm, interest and flexibility in the letter.
